Nourishing Herbs: I am the plant and the plant is I
If you are new to plants 🌱, new to connecting to things other than humans, or just new to the “woo woo” of life, then take a breath with me before reading. Breathe in—feeling the joy of life filling your lungs, and breathe out—the fear of the unknown. Repeat for a couple of times. Breathe in—breathe out. Breathe in—breathe out.
My journey has started, and it’s been a blast of learning about my body, the essence of plants, and even others. As you noticed from the title, “I am the plant and the plant is I,” the first month has felt like the plant has become a part of my essence. It’s been weird yet amazing 🤩. Let’s dive into the how…
The herbs I worked with in the first month were: Nettle, Burdock root, Dandelion root, Red Clover blossoms, and Oat Straw. I have come to love them all, but a few of them are my true allies right now. They call to me; they nourish me; they fill me with remarkable energy. I use this word “call” because as you begin to work with nature, you will realize that although you are one with everything around you, there are certain parts of nature that feel like home around you or inside of you. It may change and evolve as you evolve.
My nicknames for these plants from this month are:
- Red Clover- My Sensual Sister
- Burdock Root— The Earth
- Nettle— The Grandmother of Wisdom & The Godmother of EmbracingÂ
- Oatstraw— The Mother
- Dandelion root— Grounded AirinessÂ
The nicknames have come as I have journeyed with them and connected with them inside and outside of me. Journeying is a space of connectivity. It’s a space for meditation. You clear your space of any negative energies. Then, you touch the plant. You smell the plant. You talk to the plant. You thank the plant. You exchange energy with the plant. Then, you just sit, listen, and sip. I sip with a tea or an herbal infusion, but people do different things with different plants. As I sip, I call the plant forth to support my journey and share with me whatever she wants me to learn, see, and know. And WOW, the insights that come…
Here are some of my insights and medicines along the first month:
Starting with my journey with Oatstraw, I felt stimulation and then instant relaxation in my heart and solar plexus, which told me that healing was needed in those areas. So, the support that Oatstraw was giving me was specifically in those two chakras with the messages of: “Trust the unfolding.” “Do not be afraid of living.” “You are taken care of… go in peace. Let go of fear.”
I made an Oatstraw facial for my skin. It was cooling, soothing and ultra cleansing. Pretty much, it felt as though all oils were stripped from my face. So, I had to follow-up with a hydration moisturizer.Â
Next, Red Clover has become a favorite of mine and a very powerful ally. The funny thing is Red Clover didn’t really want to talk to me at first; she was just silent and making my body do weird stuff.  While journeying with her, I felt the need to call my great grandmother into my journey space. Then, Red Clover started sharing. She gave me messages of connection, freedom of choice, and specifically “It will all be okay; everything will work out (as it should.)” Great choice of words because I was going through some emotional things at that moment, and I needed that sisterly love and energy shift. She is also quick to tell me that “You need rest.” If I don’t oblige, a headache ensues.
For this month, I made a Red Clover herbal infusion bath. It was LOVELY. I put about a gallon of Red Clover Blossom infusions into the bath with a handful of epsom salt. Then, I filled the tub completely with warm to hot water. Instantly, I felt loved, sensual, and feminine. I felt the same way as hours progressed. The bath will definitely be a part of my monthly care.
Burdock became my next ally. Even as I’m writing this now, I journeyed with Burdock again today. It’s so grounding and Earthy, and it reminds me of connection and taking life easy. When I first took a sip and called Burdock to me, the words spoken from him: “Drink me, feel me, become me.” How COOL! As I continued sipping, the words, “tune in, centered is wealth” were spoken to me. As you could imagine, I listened and tuned in.
It was with Burdock that I had a vision to go to the beach. So, a couple of days later, I got in my car and made a day trip to Tybee Island, and it was EVERYTHING I IMAGINED—so much growth and healing just by listening to my ally.Â
For Burdock’s medicine, I was called to make burdock oil which will help with my skin especially after a year plus of wearing masks often. Â
There were insights and medicines from both Dandelion and Nettle, but the main takeaway was taking a moment to release the death grip on things and life. To embrace and allow. One of the most interesting aspects of the first month was that the Nettle appeared to me in a dream and told me exactly what type of medicine to make with her to assist me with my cleansing, and she literally told me, “Embrace all that you are and in all aspects.” WOW! I woke up thinking that message sounded like a sage or an elder from the village, but it literally came from a plant. This is how you know that our plant allies are sagacious and hold so much ancestral wisdom once we connect with them. Â
There’s so much more to share about the nourishing herbs, and I’m so lucky that they have been so willing to share with me and become one with me to support my well-being and healing towards wholeness. Even after month one, I still continue to journey with them and drink them daily or at least 3 times per week.Â
