I DESERVE REST.
I LOVE MYSELF.
I AM SURRENDERING TO THE FLOW OF LIFE.
I AM
As we are now at the end of January 2017, I have found that it is SOOOO HARD for us to find rest. We are still so worried about the past and the future, and we forget the importance and the limitless of the PRESENT. The present moment is the only moment that you have. It is the only moment that we can change. We cannot change the past or alter the future—the future is nonexistent as of right now. Only through the present can we directly influence the future. Through the present, we are able to see, feel, hear, smell, and understand.
So how do we get to the moment in which we create the Sacred Sabbath in the midst of our constant busyness?
The Sacred Sabbath
-
Be Intentional
This is the best advice anyone will ever give you. Be intentional about your life, your choices, and your routine. You control the aspects of your life. You choose to wake up and get dressed, to eat lunch/dinner, to pick your kids up from daycare, to watch TV, to listen to certain music, and to go to sleep. Therefore, you can choose to change your routine just a bit. Take 5 minutes a day to just be silent in the beginning of the day. 5 minutes at the end of the day. 5-10 minutes throughout your day to do something that FILLS you.
Eventually, you can build yourself up to taking one full day a month to nourish you. Self-care is not about being selfish; it’s about taking time for you to nourish the WHOLE you. If you have no fuel to give, then you will not be able to be selfless in your giving. You can’t give what you don’t have although we try, and it doesn’t turn out so well.
-
Surrender to the Present
Surrendering to the present does not mean do not ever think about the past. It means do not dwell on the past or on the future. There’s nothing wrong with visualization; in fact, visualization is a nice manifestation tool to do daily when you wake up. But, surrendering means stay in the present and place your focus on the task that you are doing right now. If you are talking to someone, your attention is on talking to that person, nothing else. If you are driving, then focus on driving. We enjoy more moments of our lives when we are centered and in the present. We lose more moments of our lives wondering about what-if, what could have, and what didn’t.
-
Laugh and Play
We all have an inner child. That inner child loves to play. Sometimes, you need to listen to your inner child and go out and play. Be silly. Laugh often. Do not allow anyone to steal your joy, and do not take life so seriously. Yes, it’s fragile, but it’s what we make it. So, carve out time for healthy fun.
-
Not Feeling Guilty
Now that you are set on carving out time for you. The next big step is to not feel guilty about it. There have been times that people have called and asked for my help, and I was resting. I had to say, “No,” or I had to reschedule. Initially, I had to fight the feeling of guilt and realize that I deserve that time of rest. So, you deserve the time that you take for your Sabbath; it’s called Sacred Sabbath for a reason. It becomes a sacred part of you, your journey, and your wellbeing. So, take a deep breath, and let go of the guilt. It no longer serves you.
Some Sacred Sabbath suggestions for nourishment:
