I am confident.
I am centered.
I am the embodiment of the Divine.
I surrender.
I am.
This week, we are starting to heal our solar plexus chakra in our Grow with Me’s free community. In the midst of healing, it is important to know the pros and cons of self-talk. The solar plexus chakra deals with self-esteem, self-confidence, identity, and self-control, so you can imagine what happensif it’s blocked and out of order. When we think of affirming ourselves, we think of mantras and affirmations, and all of those are important parts of our self-love journey, but the missing piece is self-talk.
Self-talk: the words and thoughts that you say to oneself.
What you say to yourself and about yourself can either stifle your growth or enhance your growth. There is power in the tongue, and that power lends itself to self-fulfilling prophecy. Some examples of negative self-talk are “I’m not good enough. I can’t do this. This is too hard. I’m ugly. I’m not attractive. I’m not lovable. I’m not deserving of love. No man or woman could ever love me. Why can’t I be like him/her? There’s something wrong with me. I deserve these bad things happening to me. I’m not worthy of forgiveness.” The list could go on for days. Take a moment and think: what have I told myself today? Have you doubted yourself? Have you let your fear stop you from accomplishing your next step to your dreams?
In a lot of cases, we get in the way of our own success by belittling, doubting, and comparing ourselves to other people. It’s about self-talk.
There is power in the tongue.
So, how can we switch from negative self-talk to positive self-talk?
- When you find yourself getting ready to talk bad about yourself, stop and make it positive.
- Stop gossiping and talking bad about others. Usually, what we do to others, we do to ourselves as well.
- Make it a morning routine. Try our self-care affirmations here. By adding positive self-talk to your morning routine, it becomes a habit, and thus, a daily, active part of your life.
- Throw self-doubt in the trash can. Do not talk negatively about yourself or your situation. You were created for a purpose, and the world needs your gift that only you can bring to this world. You are enough, and you have what it takes. Operate in your God-self: the Holy Spirit that dwells in you. God confidence is better than self-confidence any day.
- Be grateful throughout the day. Notice things small and big that have changed your life, and say “Thank you.”
- Affirm yourself with your favorite scripture or spiritual verse that gives you strength and confidence. Some of my favorites are:
- In God, I live, move, and have my being. (Acts 17:28);
- Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27);
- For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10);
- And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. (Isaiah 58:11);
- and the famous: I can do all things through Christ who strengthen me (Philippians 4:13)
There are many others that come to mind during various instances in my life, and I change them to first person point of view to affirm myself and to talk positive to myself. If you don’t think and say great things to yourself, then who will?
